Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee will begin meeting in March to seek the Lord’s guidance and direction in contacting candidates to fill leadership positions (elders and deacons) for terms beginning in January 2010. We trust that each member will also be asking the Lord how they can share their time and talent with our congregation. If you feel you are being called to serve, please contact one of the committee members (listed below). If you are contacted by a Committee member about a term as an elder or deacon, please prayerfully consider the request. We look forward to talking to many of you soon and seeing how the Holy Spirit is at work among us in this coming year. Ruth Schweitzer, Moderator John Turner, Elder Vice Moderator Judy Merker, Deacon Representative Ellen Groves, Member at Large Jim Shnell, Member at Large Raye Ritchie, Member at Large Chuck Patterson, Member at Large Rebecca B. Prichard, ex officio
A brief description of each position is as follows:
DEACONThe office of Deacon is one of sympathy, witness, service and caring for the members and friends of the congregation. Deacons minister to those in need, the sick and the troubled. They should be of high spiritual character, of sound judgment, honest and warm.
Deacons are ordained. They serve a term of three years. Each Deacon has approximately fifteen families in their “parish”. Deacons are led by four Quad leaders and a Moderator or Co-Moderators.
ELDERElders must be persons of faith, dedication and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the church and in the world.
Elders are ordained and serve a three year term as a member of Session. There are twelve Elders, with one third being elected each year. The Elders are the decision makers for the church. Each Elder serves as Moderator or Vice Moderator of a Session committee.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE MEMBER-AT-LARGEThe Nominating Committee has the vitally important responsibility of nominating church officers for service to our Lord and congregation. The Nominating Committee is also responsible for officer training. The committee consists of seven members, plus the pastor serving as an ex-officio member. Three members are appointed by Deacons and Session and four are elected by the congregation as “at large” members. The “at large” members should have a good knowledge of the congregation and be persons of high character, honesty and integrity. Each serves a one year term.
