Session News

 

The following are the significant items from the most recent session meetings:

 

January 2012:

  • Approved congregation-at-large members for several committees

  • Elected Sue Currie and Richard Loeble as commissioners to the February meeting of The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Approved the curriculum for the 2012 Confirmation Class and the Rev. Lynn Stone as its leader

  • Continued to work on the TPC budget for 2012

  • Approved the use of the Youth Lounge as an overnight host site for the youth group of Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 31, and Friday, April 6, on their way to and from their annual mission trip

December 2011:

  • Elected Richard Loeble as Clerk of Session for 2012

  • Elected Ron Askew as church treasurer for 2012

  • Elected the following corporate officers for 2012:

President - George Morgan

Vice-president - Gerry Herter

Secretary - Richard Loeble

Treasurer - Ron Askew

  • Called the 2012 annual meeting of the congregation for February 19 at 11:00 a.m.

  • Approved Sue Currie as a member of the Endowment Fund Committee in the Class of 2014

  • Approved revised job descriptions for the Lead Child Care Worker and the Child Care Assistant

  • Approved the members who will be authorized to sign checks for TPC during 2012

  • Approved the offering counters for 2012

  • Directed the Clerk of Session to request from The Presbytery of Los Ranchos a payment schedule for the 2012 per capita apportionment in which the per capita would be paid in six equal installments from January through June

  • Approved revised TPC By-laws and recommended that they be presented for approval at the 2012 annual meeting of the congregation

  • Approved the committee assignments for the session members for 2012

  • Approved the members of the Personnel Committee for 2012

  • Approved January 22 as the date for the ordination and installation of ruling elders and deacons

  • Approved youth activities for January and February

November 2011:

  • Approved the hiring of Dr. Joni Prado as Chancel Choir Director

  • Approved the hiring of Heather Reithmeier as Soprano Section Leader

  • Approved the job description for the Chancel Choir Director position

  • Called the fall meeting of the congregation for November 20 at the close of the worship service for the purpose of electing church officers

  • Approved six additional LOGOS Table Parents for the remainder of the 2011/2012 school year

  • Approved the dates in 2012 during which TPC will serve as host church for Family Promise families

  • Approved Sue Currie as the liaison from TPC to Boy Scout Troop 33

October 2011:

  • Approved a car rally/scavenger hunt event for the middle school and high school youth on November 18 to gather food for hungry families

  • Approved the Advent Afternoon event on Sunday, November 27

  • Approved a Christmas Crafts Afternoon event on Sunday, December 11

  • Approved the sale of See’s candy by Boy Scout Troop 33 with orders to be taken on November 13 and the candy to be delivered on December 11

  • Approved new congregation-at-large members for two committees

September 2011:

  • Approved the facility usage agreement between the Tustin Community Preschool and Tustin Presbyterian Church for the 2011/2012 school year

  • Approved the curriculum and teachers for Sunday School for the 2011/2012 school year

  • Approved the members of the LOGOS staff for the 2011/2012 year

  • Approved the communion schedule for 2012

  • Approved expenditures to repair water leakage through the exterior wall of the office of the associate pastor

  • Approved expenditures to paint the wood trim around the stained glass windows in the sanctuary after they are repaired and replaced

  • Approved the payment of the third quarter general mission commitment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Approved Sue Currie, Jenny McGlinchey, Chuck Patterson, Russ Schmalenberger, and Ruth Schweitzer as the members of the search committee to identify candidates for the new part-time positions of Chancel Choir Director and Organist

July 2011:

  • Approved changes in the dates and locations for two of the 2011 Summer Splash events

  • Approved the payment of the second quarter general mission commitment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Approved the celebration of communion at the men’s retreat

  • Approved the income percentage to be used in determining the endowment funds that will be available for use in 2012

June 2011:

  • Approved the members of the staff for 2011 Vacation Bible School

  • Approved additional teachers for Sunday School for summer 2011

  • Approved the dates and locations for the 2011 Summer Splash events for the youth

  • Approved Sunday, December 4, as the date for the 2011 Keeping CHRISTmas Market

  • Completed the formation of the 2011 Church Officer Nominating Committee by approving Sally Jeltema as the second elder designated by the session to serve on that committee

  • Called a congregational meeting for July 17 at the close of the worship service for the purpose of electing officers to fill openings on the session and the board of deacons

May 2011:

  • Approved the facility usage agreement with Mountain Peak Charter School for the 2011/2012 school year

  • Approved the performance of background checks on anyone who handles money at TPC

  • Approved Church Mutual as the insurance provider for TPC for the coming year

  • Agreed to hold a session retreat on July 8 and July 9

April 2011:

  • Received 6 new members from the Confirmation Class

  • Approved the payment of the first quarter general mission commitment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Approved a concert in the sanctuary on May 1 to benefit Laurel House

  • Approved the commitment of mission interest funds to the Family Promise program

  • Approved a change in the dates for the youth mission trip to San Francisco

  • Approved Ryan and Heather Reithmeier as youth advisors

  • Approved revised job descriptions for the Pastor/Head of Staff, Lead Child Care Worker, and Child Care Assistant

  • Approved the requests for the baptisms of 5 children and youth

  • Approved the participation of TPC in the 2011 Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-off

March 2011:

  • Approved the person who will perform the review of the 2010 TPC financial records

  • Approved the new Policies and Procedures for the Endowment Committee of Tustin Presbyterian Church

  • Approved the request for the baptism of Taylor Ouellet

  • Approved June 27 – July 1 as the dates for 2011 Vacation Bible School

  • Approved the use of the Youth Lounge as an overnight host site for the youth group of Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 16, and Friday, April 22, on their way to and from their annual mission trip

February 2011:

  • Approved the scheduling of two worship services on Easter Sunday, one at 9:30 a.m. and one at 11:15 a.m.

  • Approved congregation-at-large members of several committees

  • Approved ReNew: The Green VBS by Augsburg Press as the curriculum for 2011 Vacation Bible School

  • Approved the employment of Lori Keane as church secretary

  • Approved the employment of Jane Shim as alto section leader

  • Approved the scheduling of Lenten worship services on Wednesday, March 23, and Wednesday, April 6, with both services to begin at 7:30 p.m.

  • Approved the scheduling of an evensong service on Sunday, March 27.
