Session News

 

The following are the significant items from the most recent session meetings:

 

June 2008:

  • Approved the second quarter general mission payment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Called the fall congregational meeting at the conclusion of the worship service on Sunday, October 19, for the purpose of electing church officers who will begin their terms in 2009

  • Approved two changes to the TPC Employee Handbook

  • Approved the continued service of Sue Currie as the liaison from TPC to the Tustin Community Preschool and Boy Scout Troop 33

  • Approved the celebration of communion at the men’s ReCharge retreat on Sunday, September 14, with the Rev. Lynn Stone as the officiant

  • Approved the scheduling of two worship services at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 14, when the Chancel Choir will present Bach’s Magnificat

June 2008:

  • Agreed to extend an invitation to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos to hold its May 16, 2009 meeting at Tustin Presbyterian Church

May 2008:

  • Approved the first quarter general mission payment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Approved a bake sale on July 13 to raise funds for summer camp

April 2008:

  • Agreed to sign the Creation Protection Agreement prepared by the Orange County Interfaith Coalition for the Environment (OCICE)

  • Received a report on the new recycling bins that have been obtained for use in the kitchen and for the rest of the TPC campus

March 2008:

  • Approved a Youth Overnight in the Youth Lounge on April 11-12

  • Approved a planning committee for a proposed Health Fair for the Tustin community that would be held at TPC on November 22, 2008

  • Agreed to allow Boy Scout Troop 33 to go forward with planning to establish a Cub Scout feeder pack that would also meet at TPC

February 2008:

  • Approved the person who will perform the review of the 2007 TPC financial records

  • Called a congregational meeting for Sunday, March 9, at the end of the worship service for the purpose of electing congregation-at-large members of the Church Officer Nominating Committee

  • Approved Gail Greek as a member of the Church Officer Nominating Committee representing the session

  • Elected Gerry Herter and Jere Murphy as representatives from TPC on the Association of Presbyterian Members of Hoag Hospital

  • Elected commissioners from TPC to the meetings of The Presbytery of Los Ranchos during 2008

January 2008:

  • Approved the 2008 TPC budget

  • Approved congregation-at-large members of several committees for 2008

  • Approved in principle the scheduling of a health fair for the Tustin community hosted by TPC

  • Accepted the resignation of Jean Kelso as Parish Nurse

  • Approved the 2008 compensation packages for the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Prichard and the Rev. Lynn Stone that would be presented to the congregation for action at the annual meeting

  • Approved a lease agreement with Royal Street Communications to allow it to establish a cellular site in the TPC Bell Tower

  • Approved the curriculum for a confirmation class that will be taught by the Rev. Lynn Stone

  • Approved the 2008 Vacation Bible School dates and curriculum

  • Approved a Lenten adult education class titled “Journey to Holy Week” led by Robin Clardy

  • Approved four goals recommended by TPC’s Green Task Force to encourage committees and organizations using church facilities to be more environmentally conscious at events at which food is served

December 2007:

  • Approved the members who will be authorized to sign checks for TPC during 2008

  • Approved the offering counters for 2008

  • Approved the payment of the fourth quarter General Mission commitment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Commended Lori Ruff-Schmalenberger for her coordination of the Keeping CHRISTmas Market

  • Approved congregation-at-large members of several committees for 2008

  • Approved a youth ice skating event on January 11

  • Approved the elders-elect and deacons-elect for ordination and/or installation

  • Approved committee assignments for 2008

  • Elected Richard Loeble as Clerk of Session for 2008

  • Elected Gerry Herter as church treasurer for 2008

  • Elected the following corporate officers for 2008:

  • Called the 2008 annual meeting of the congregation for January 27 following the worship service

  • Received  a new TPC member

November 2007:

  • Scheduled the ordination and installation of elders and deacons during worship on December 30

  • Approved the communion schedule for 2008

  • Authorized Boy Scout Troop 33 to sell See’s candy on the Patio after worship on December 9

  • Directed the Clerk of Session to request from The Presbytery of Los Ranchos a payment schedule for the 2008 per capita apportionment in which the per capita would be paid in six equal installments from January through June

October 2007:

  • Approved the Sunday School teachers for the 2007/2008 school year

  • Approved the LOGOS volunteers for the 2007/2008 school year

  • Received a report on the results to date for the pledge collection drive for 2008

  • Approved the payment of the third quarter general mission commitment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Appointed a task force to aid the pastor in recommending session committee assignments for 2008

September 2007:

  • Approved the continued use of the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum for Sunday School and the curriculum from LOGOS Associates for the LOGOS program for the 2007/2008 school year

  • Received the report on the review of the 2006 financial records for Tustin Presbyterian Church that indicated that the records were in order

  • Approved a commitment from the funds from the capital campaign designated for mission for a period of three years to support the hiring of a part-time program coordinator as a member of the staff of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana to establish and operate an after-school program for the Hispanic community

  • Approved the funding by TPC of the travel expenses for Pam Roeth’s short-term missionary trip to Lesotho

August 2007:

  • Authorized the Fellowship and Outreach Committee to sell Entertainment Books as a fourth quarter fundraiser

  • Approved the payment of the $8,250 second quarter general mission commitment to The Presbytery of Los Ranchos

  • Called the fall meeting of the congregation for the purpose of electing church officers for Sunday, October 14, at the conclusion of the worship service
